Jagannath Yedida

Organic chemist and medical device maker, Hyderabad

He trained as a chemist at IIT Roorkee, worked as a scientist at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, spent eight years in enterprise software in the United States, and came back to Hyderabad to make medical products.

Reevax Pharma, which he ran from 2006 to 2023, sold about ₹20 Cr of tissue adhesive over that time, all of it built on an applicator he designed. His UVRova disinfection robots have sold about ₹2 Cr since they launched in May 2020.

He is now looking for investors in UVRova, to scale up manufacturing, and in GLOW-C, a vitamin C serum he is still formulating.

UVRova

UV-C disinfection robots, mostly sold to hospitals for operating theatres and ICUs. They have been on sale since May 2020, sold through Reevax Pharma. The money would go into manufacturing at a larger scale, with hotels and airlines as the next customers after hospitals.

The lab report and CE certificate are listed further down, and copies go out with the brief. Ask for the UVRova brief.

GLOW-C

A vitamin C serum sold as a week of sealed, single day doses. Vitamin C oxidises soon after it meets air and warmth, which is why most serums carry stabilisers and preservatives. His idea is to put his own formulation in packaging that is opened one day at a time, and to leave the preservatives out.

The formulation is still being worked on and a patent application is pending. Stability testing comes next, then a pilot batch; how long it keeps and whether it can sit at room temperature will depend on that testing. He plans to manufacture in New York for the US market first. Ask for the GLOW-C brief.

UVRova

Hospitals in India usually disinfect theatres by fumigating with formaldehyde, which takes hours and can't be done near ICU patients. Hydrogen peroxide vapour is quicker but needs expensive machines and a steady supply of chemicals. A UVRova robot is wheeled into an empty room after cleaning, runs for a few minutes and leaves nothing behind, so the room can be used as soon as the lamps go off.

ST

The room robot. A tower of 254 nm UV-C tubes, about 700 W in all, that lights the room in every direction. It plugs into the mains and can be started from its button or from a phone. If someone opens the door while it is running, the lamps go off within a second.

BR

Built for ICU beds. Once a patient is moved out, it drives itself around the empty bed and treats it in about five minutes, so the bed is ready for the next admission. Mains powered, with the same door cut-off as the ST. Patent pending.

Genie 100

A small battery unit for clinics and offices. You press the button and leave the room; the lamp column rises in about ten seconds and covers roughly 100 sq ft in three minutes.

Where they have been used

The Gandhi Hospital COVID-19 ICU took delivery in July 2020, with the Telangana IT and Industries Minister present. Star, Virinchi and Medicare hospitals in Hyderabad have used them since 2020, along with dental clinics and a few commercial kitchens.

Reevax Pharma

Cyanoacrylate glue can close a cut or an incision without stitches, but it begins to set as soon as it touches moisture. Glue sold in plastic ampoules often thickens on the shelf, and some batches go solid within days of leaving the factory.

His fix was to seal the glue in a thin glass ampoule, which moisture can't get through, and put that inside a soft plastic jacket. At the bedside the doctor squeezes the jacket, the glass breaks, and the glue comes out a drop at a time through a filtered tip that holds back the glass. The product brochures specify room temperature storage.

Reevax sells two adhesives built this way, XOIN and TopoCryl, to doctors across India; XOIN+ is also used to control bleeding from gastric varices. He co-founded the company with Mohan Tayel in 2004 and was its Managing Director from 2006 to 2023. The company site is reevax.com (opens in a new tab).

New work at Enthra Robotics

Enthra is the company he has run since 2023. Its machines are designed and put together in his workshop in Hyderabad.

The AutoPill prototype, a white cabinet with a drawer of blister packs Watch the AutoPill demo (4:56)

AutoPill

A pill dispenser for the home. It holds up to 420 tablets, about a month of medicine, gives out each dose at the right time and records it over the internet.

This one exists: the video shows the working prototype being loaded with blister packs and dispensing.

AERO robot in an aircraft aisle, its T-shaped boom of UV lamps spanning both seat blocks

AERO

A UV-C robot for aircraft cabins, still on paper. It would drive down the aisle by itself while a T-shaped boom of lamps reaches the seats, bins and overhead panels. The aim is one row every 10 seconds.

AutoStore pharmacy unit with one drawer pulled out, full of blister packs

AutoStore

A robotic pharmacy cabinet, 1.75 m tall, with a patent pending. It is meant to hold 5,000 blister packs of 500 brands and push about five a minute into a tray, with up to ten cabinets run from one app.

He has also sketched a 500 kg load carrier for army logistics, a robotic fast food kitchen, and preservative free nasal drops and syrups for children. None of these has a prototype yet.

AERO and AutoStore pictures are computer renderings. Capacities and speeds for both are design targets.

Background

Yedida Venkata Surya Jagannath did his MSc in organic chemistry at IIT Roorkee, finished first in his class, and received the Garg Medal for his thesis on the synthesis of anthracene.

From 1991 to 1997 he was a scientist at the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, including time at the Nuclear Fuel Complex. In 1998 he moved to the United States as an SAP analyst at Philip Morris and later became a Practice Manager at KPMG in Washington DC.

He came back to India to start Reevax Pharma with Mohan Tayel in 2004 and ran it as Managing Director from 2006 to 2023. UVRova followed in 2020. The robots are made by Srujana Robotics, where he is a director, and sold through Reevax. Since 2023 he has been Managing Director of Enthra Robotics.

Patents

He is named as inventor on these five filings. The year is the priority or filing year, and each title links to Google Patents.
